Perfect for thrill-seekers and nature lovers, this journey blends adrenaline, culture, and breathtaking landscapes
Quick Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival in Manali
- Arrive in Manali, transfer to your hotel, unwind and soak in the mountain air; this is your basecamp before the journey begins
- Bike inspection & mechanical check: brakes, suspension, tyres, luggage mounts — RoamRidge team ensures your ride is safe and reliable
- Ride-gear fitting & riding safety briefing: how to handle high altitude, cold starts, curves and long days in the saddle
- Evening gathering: get to know fellow riders, guide introduces the route, expected challenges, culture along the way
- Overnight stay in Manali, rest well — first significant climb begins the next morning
Day 2 Manali → Jispa (≈ 140 km, 5-7 hrs riding)
- Depart early: ride through the dramatic Atal Tunnel (if open) or via Rohtang Pass depending on conditions — watch how the landscape shifts from lush forests to arid high-valley stretches
- Climb and descend moderate gradients, with sweeping views of river gorges, waterfalls, and pine forests giving way to alpine terrain
- Stops at Keylong for lunch, rest, and fuel; interact with local ladakhi traders or shepherds; possibility to taste regional snacks
- Arrive at Jispa late afternoon: riverside camp or small guesthouse, with golden light over persistent snow-caps
- Dinner under stars; early to bed to prepare for higher altitudes next day
Day 3 Jispa → Sarchu (≈ 150-200 km, 7-9 hrs riding)
- Starting early ride over Baralacha La pass (~16,040 ft), one of the major high passes; expect thinner air, steep climbs, spectacular gullies
- Traverse Suraj Tal, a high altitude lake with surreal reflections; ideal photo opportunities and rest stop
- Navigate the Gata Loops: series of hairpin bends, gravel patches, moderate obstacles — test of skill and endurance
- Late in day reach Sarchu — often set up tents or camps; stark alpine plateau environment, cold nights
- Evening brief: watch weather, preserve energy, adjust pace for next day long haul to Leh
Today, we officially begin our ascent towards the mighty Khardung La. The route takes us out of Leh and winds up into the mountains. The air gets thinner and the views more dramatic with every kilometer. You’ll ride through arid mountain valleys, cross local settlements, and pedal alongside dramatic ridgelines. Our support vehicle will provide regular hydration and snack breaks. We end the day at South Pullu, a military checkpoint and rest point just before the final climb. Dinner will be served at the campsite or a warm guesthouse
We ride slow and steady to allow proper adjustment to thinner air.
Day 4 Sarchu → Leh (≈ 200-250 km, long day: 9-10+ hrs)
- Rise early; cross Nakee La and Lachulung La passes; their ridgelines offer sweeping Himalayan panoramas
- Ride across the More Plains — long stretches of high-altitude flat terrain where oxygen is thin and the mind can wander; pacing is key
- Ascend Tanglang La (~17,480 ft) — one of the highest road passes; steady climb, possible snow in early/late season; cold winds
- Descend into Leh late evening; scenery changes again: rugged mountains softened by human habitation, prayer flags dot landscapes
- Overnight in Leh: comfortable guesthouse/hotel, hot dinner, chance to stretch and rest.
The final push! We start early to conquer the last stretch to Khardung La Pass, one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The climb is steep and challenging but incredibly rewarding. You’ll pedal through rugged switchbacks and snow-lined roads (depending on the season), cheered on by the towering Himalayas. Upon reaching the summit, we’ll celebrate with tea, snacks, group photos, and a Khardung La cycling certificate!
After catching our breath and soaking in the views, we’ll ride all the way down to Leh — a thrilling descent that feels like flying. By evening, you’ll return to the hotel for a hot shower and a celebration dinner with the group
