Srinagar → Leh → Khardung La — 9-Day Cycling Expedition (RoamRidge Adventures)

Ride the legendary Srinagar → Leh corridor on a curated 9-day cycling expedition that combines high-altitude endurance, Himalayan scenery and cultural immersion. This expedition takes cyclists from the lush Kashmir Valley, across Zoji La and dramatic mountain passes, into the rugged highlands of Ladakh and up to the Khardung La gateway to Nubra. The route is designed for experienced cyclists who can handle long days in thin air and mixed surfaces. Typical total distance is ~450–550 km on-route with additional local loops; the exact figure depends on detours and acclimatization rides. (Route & logistics benchmarks based on leading operators and guides)

Highlights of the Tour

Why This Tour is Special

Unlike conventional tours, RoamRidge Adventures emphasizes altitude preparation, rider safety, and sustainable adventure. You’re not just riding a bike—you’re embracing the elements, pushing your limits, and cycling across terrain that only a few on Earth dare to challenge.
We make it possible with the right blend of expertise, gear, route planning, and care.

Who is This For?

Quick Itinerary

Arrive, settle on the lakefront and meet your Road Captain and cycle mechanic. The day focuses on mechanical checks (tyres, brakes, gearing), fitting luggage and discussing altitude protocol — essential preparation for the high passes ahead. A gentle evening on Dal Lake helps riders relax and mentally prepare
This is your first big alpine transition: the lush valley gives way to stark, rocky ridgelines. Zoji La is a defining ascent with variable weather and rough sections — pace conservatively. Cultural stops and the Kargil War Memorial make for meaningful breaks
A visually rich day: after tougher early climbs, a rolling descent brings you through lunar landscapes to Lamayuru, then onward to Leh. Magnetic Hill and Pathar Sahib are classic stops. This day also serves as a soft acclimatization before the Khardung La push

We ride slow and steady to allow proper adjustment to thinner air.

est day for acclimatization — short, easy rides help blood oxygenation. The Road Captain will review the technical sections, adjust bike setups and confirm contingency plans (oxygen, evacuation). This day is vital for minimizing Acute Mountain Sickness riskAfter catching our breath and soaking in the views, we’ll ride all the way down to Leh — a thrilling descent that feels like flying. By evening, you’ll return to the hotel for a hot shower and a celebration dinner with the group
The Khardung La ascent is the expedition’s pinnacle — a physically and mentally demanding ride. Expect thinning air, cold winds and gravel sections. Reaching Nubra is an emotional payoff: verdant pockets, camels and desert-like dunes against mountain backdrops. (Altitude claims vary among sources — always prepare for colder temps and thin air)
After the Khardung La exertion, take a recovery day to explore orchard villages, warm springs and the famous sand dunes. This day is about regeneration and light sightseeing while the mechanic services bikes for the onward ride
This dramatic day links remote valleys to the turquoise Pangong Lake. Terrain is variable and sometimes remote; the group relies on support vehicles and meticulous pacing. Pangong’s shores reward the effort with cinematic sunsets and peaceful lakeside camps
The homeward leg includes Chang La’s high slopes (another altitude test) then a welcome descent to Leh’s busy market, where riders celebrate with local food and souvenirs. The evening is for debriefs, sharing shots and handing out completion certificates
